Mike's Thinfill Story

Why I Thinfill

My name is Mike Benkert and I am an Architect and Developer based in Cincinnati, Ohio. My passion for designing, developing and building Thin Infill Homes began back in 2004 when I first stepped foot on an urban infill construction site as an 18-year-old Habitat for Humanity Volunteer, witnessing first hand, the positive impact a new home can have on transforming families and neighborhoods. From that experience, I went on to become involved with Thin Infill Home projects in Cincinnati and around the country both as a volunteer and professional in roles ranging from designer, to developer, to construction manager and green building consultant.

In 2015, I completed construction on my first personal Thin Infill Home dubbed the 'Starter Home 2.0 project' in effort to create a contemporary, affordable residence in the context of an established walkable neighborhood, close to jobs and entertainment. More recently in 2018, construction wrapped up on my second Thinfill Home project, which was designed, developed and sold as a LEED Gold Certified Market Home.

Now I ask myself 'How Can I Do More?' Yes, continuing to design, develop and build my own Thin Infill Home projects is still a top priority, but how can I put to use the knowledge, skills and experience I've gained to help others on a larger scale? Creating ThinfillHomes.com as an Online Platform to Help Homebuyers & Builders Transform Thin Infill Lots into Extraordinary New Homes of their own is my answer.

Thank you for visiting ThinfillHomes.com and being a part of this endeavor 15 years in the making!
